Te Kura Toi Tangata School of Education
Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato University of Waikato
The Postgraduate Symposium is an annual event that provides an opportunity for postgraduate students in the Division of Education at the University of Waikato to present the crucial contributions of their research. With the success of last year’s Virtual Postgraduate Symposium, the symposium will be also conducted online this year via the ZOOM platform. The symposium will include a keynote speaker followed by a series of research presentations. It is an opportunity to network with other student researchers, gain valuable insights and build an academic CV.
Dr. Anne Alkema
Independent Social Science Researcher and Evaluator
Most of Anne's working life has been spent in education - as a learner, teacher, public servant and researcher. For the last 12 years she has worked as an independent social science researcher and evaluator. While most of her work has been in tertiary education - in the foundation and VET sectors, she has also undertaken work in health, transport, emergency management, and the volunteer sectors. A particular focus of Anne's work has been in the foundation education sector where she sees research and evaluation as being pivotal to government policy making and funding decisions. Alongside being passionate about this topic area, Anne has had a growing interest in the practice of social science research - how can we do this better? In order to know more and improve her own practice - and as a 'late' career move, Anne completed a Doctorate of Professional Practice in 2021.
